Default Slip ons again..

I have an 05 Ultra pointing to get outa my garage as soon as the snow stops. started it a few times and it does sound like a Volkswagon stock. I asked a few dealers in the Toronto area about putting on some slip ons and they said if you don't put a breather kit on it you don't need the map or a PCIII and it won't hurt anything. I've read posts here before ( I read alot just don't have much input yet as I haven't rode mine yet) that this is not right and it should be mapped or a PCIII.
I switched from riding Yamahas. The only thing I don't like about the bike is the tensioners and plan on "doing" or "having" gear driven cams put in so I'd like to save my $$$until next fall and just get some extra noise.Any feedback would be appreciated.

It's really pretty simple Smitty. If you change your breather to a free flow style, it will draw more air as the name suggests. If you change your pipes, you may reduce or increase the backpreasure.
Increasing the air intake will lean out the engine, possibly causing damage. Infact this could actually be said "likely will cause damage".
On the other hand a minor change in backpreasure won't hurt anything.
On the other hand, without changing the breather and doing a remap you are missing out on an easy power increase.
Now , how many hands was that?

I've read the same thing about slip-on's and no tuning needed. Before actually doing it I'd shoot Shovelhead bob a PM and ask him, he is a HD tech and will give you the streight information on this.

I took the stock slip-ons off and put Wild Pigs on and immediately noticed popping, which indicates a lean condition. This really didn't suprise me after all of the posts I read about how the bikes come out of the factory lean anyway.

My solution: a PCIII USB. However, just for giggles I had the bike tuned on a Dyno and got a better than 10% increase in torque and horsepower over the canned map I put on the PCIII. I am really not in to whipping my Dyno sheet out in a large crowd and was mainly just interested in making sure that my mixture was rich enough that I would not eventually fry my pistons and such, but I have to say thata tune is well worth the money, for the intrique if nothing else.

Added the new one piece SE street performance mufflers with no problems. Sounds great, I couldn't be happier with the outcome and got em' for $315 at my local Harley dealer with my 15% discount for buying the new scoot. It took less than 20 minutes to change out both of them. Best investment yet for my RKC.
