Default Touring Bike

Thinking of buying a touring bike. My choice would be either Road King or Street Glide. Don't really much care for the Stereo since I wear an ear plugs and a full face helmet when I ride. Having said that, I was told that the R/K would be a much better touring bike than the Street Glide.

What do you guys (touring people) think?

I'd take either, but my preference would be the street glide.

Same bike other than fixed faring or removable winshield, both great for touring.

Would you mind telling me why prefer street glide?

Traded a road king for the x, love the fairing. More protection for long rides.

Let's not forget the Street Glide sits 1 inch lower than a King.

First, you can still hear the radio with ear plugs and a full face...I do.

Second, they are both great touring machines. The fairing on the SG will provide better wind/weather protection vs. the shield on the RK.

Third, the street glide is a better looking bike although both are great looking (opinion).

From what I have seen, most Harley owners end up with touring bikes and most Harley touring riders end up with fairing bikes.

I don't think you could choose the SG and wish you chose the RK. I do think the opposite is possible. Ride both...decide.

If I didn't enjoy the music and used a FF helmet all the time I would get the Roadking. I road my dads King (with the wife) one day a couple hundred miles, it was enough to convince me that I wanted a touring bike bad. I went with the streetglide since I wanted the music.
