It's been a long time since I've been here. I've been wanting a 2014 FLHTK since they were announced and have the cash to get one.
I have my current bike (2003 FLHTC) in there now for an inspection to get a trade in value. i bought it a year and a half ago from the local Honda dealership for $13K. I got a call from the guy today as I got to work and he said it did not look good. He said I have a bent back brake rotor. A cracked exhaust pipe. Needs lifters and shoes.
Now, I thought my bike ran great. I never noticed anything out of the ordinary. I didn't crack open the chest to see the shoes so I was expecting bad news there.
My heart sunk. My baby who I thought was in great shape apparently is not. He wants me to go in tomorrow to see all that is wrong.
I was hoping to get $10K for my bike but now I don't know.
Anyways, I have about $35K cash so I should have enough, but I was looking at getting the ESP as well for tires and such.
I'm only posting to vent. I'm a little nervous but am also looking forward to getting a brand new bike.
I have never ever purchased a new bike before. Any 2014 FLHTK owners have any tips to what I should buy/look for for the new bike right away? Any thoughts on the ESP (I know there are endless threads but I was wondering about this bike specifically.
Congratulations on your new FLHTK. Their is really no comparison between a 2003 and your new 2014. I traded a 2007 and it was a huge leap forward. I installed the HD street cannons, a SE ventilator air cleaner and stage 1 download. the bike runs strong. IMHO you are smart making the move now, before spring. Best of luck

Oh man! I needed some positive words. I feel better now after reading that. I'm forgoing to stage 1 for now but did order the tallboy seat as well as clear lenses.
Did the stage 1 make a noticeable difference over stock?
Some dealers play that game all day. It'll cost them a few bucks to repair anything wrong with your current bike. See what other similar bikes(year, mileage) are selling for at retail in your area and then take about 20% off for tradein value. Good luck.
Is the dealer charging you for the inspection if you don't buy from them?
Best to try a few different dealers for trade in value if your set on going thru a dealer.
You have until the end of the factory warranty to purchase the ESP.The finance guy will tell you it may cost more later.
You can try to negotiate the price of that and the set up fees.
I'm in Canada also...actually lived in the area for quite some time..anyway.. I traded in my 01 for a 14... PM me about buying local to you.. I got 10K for my FLHT.
Too bad you are having issues with your trade. As to the new one. You are in a position to pay cash for a new one. That is awesome. You can't go wrong with that.
I have a 2014 Ultra. I am surprised with your location that you'd want the liquid cooled heads. You're even further north than me. Some riding days the extra heat feels good!!
Maybe someone here knows where to find it, there is a link to a web page that gives the price the dealer pays for the bike. I did a quick search but could not find it. Not sure how, or if it will help in Canada.
