I have always used the heel shifters on my Electra-Glides (4) and my Heritage Softail, and I love it. You can kick it in gear and you'll never miss 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th. I never use my toe to upshift, and when riding a Goldwing (I used to have one- it was momentary lapse of consciousness) I missed the heel shifter more than anything else.
Got 1" longer heel and toe shifter arms, size 11 boot. I wear steel toe logger boots without the heel shifter I had to set the toe shifer arm pretty high to get my toe under it. With both the heel and toe arms on I don't have to lift my foot up to high.
I had never had a bike with a heel shifter, until this year. I found it a little crapped on the footboard. I like to move my feet around a little, so I went with the "EZ-Shift levers". Made a world of difference. Now I just have to get used to heel shifting. It will keep my military boots from getting scuffed on the way into work.
I am one of the Bigfoots.... 14 EEE. I am going to get something different.. Prolly the easy shifters... I have a LOT of foot problems, so I really like the floorboards. This is my first bike with the heel shift, but I like it. Took me about a day to get used to it, but now feels very natural. My feet fit underneath the levers, but I would like to have a little more room... Thanks to the guys for posting pics of what you have done, it is very helpful to see it on a real bike, as opposed to in a catalog...
