reply to:A fork baffle makes a big difference also. I have a 7 inch Cee Baileys with a fork baffle and I get no buffeting. I look right over the shield. I also have the wings but dont use them to much.
I did the same on my '02 FLHTC. The baffle and wings helped then I went with a Ceebaileys 7" and my buffeting has gone away. I have a whole collection of 7,8,9 inch Fastaires but the Ceebaileys is made so much better and it removed the problem. I have a stock seat and am 5'11". Just in the summer time you will feel much more engine heat with the fork baffle installed.
I bought an 06 FLHT standard last year and had the same problemo, I know you say you want a RK don't blame you I do to because I can ride without the windshield with FF helmet (I have a Shoie RF1000). Anyway I am 6 ' tall and got some serious buffet and any mph over 25, could not deal with it. I ended up with a Memphis shade 15" gradient blue (my bike is blue). Buffetting stopped for $60 and the shield really looks great..... just a thought. Peace, Judd
since i have an 07, anyone know if the wiring harness is the same as earlier bikes...im thinking that the only difference on a rk and an flht would be the pigtails....i wonder if the plug to the fuel injection has changes in 07?....
The main wire harness and the fairing (innertconnect) wire harness are different based on the year model of the bike. The RK main harness is different than the EG main harness. Mainly because of where the speedo mounts on the tank on a RK and in the fairing on an EG. The fuel infuction harness is independent of the main harness on both bikes.
2000 - 2001 bikes use the same harness. Beginning w/ 2002 a new main harness was uses but i think the only difference is the way the main harness and innerconnect harness connects. I think in either 05 or 06 a different main harness was used. Your HD parts guy can do some research. The part number will be the same. For example the main harness part number for an 2001 EG is 70985-01, for an '02 it is 70985-02, an '03 it is 70985-03...you get the point. The last two numbers indicate the year. So if a '07 bike has a wire harness numbered 70985-05 then the same harness is used from 2005 - 2007. That is standard with all HD parts.
Well it's a shame your in Florida or are you because Im in NYC and Im thinking that I should have bought an FLHT and I'd be willing to trade my 2005 Road King mint with low mileage and some cash!!!!!
im in north florida....i couldnt trade, because its financed and im upside down big time....ill just keep it and swap windshilds until i go broke or it solves the problem....another thing i dont like, is the upright riding position of the glide....there is no handlebar adjustment so that i can lean slightly foward and save my back...
i might add, that ive owned about 7 twincams, from a fatboy to a superglide and this is the best running harley ive ever owned....ive got a little tranny noise, but with the stage one and an sert, it runs flawlessly....i hope i didnt jinx it by saying that....
