Default FREE Rear Break Pedal MOD,,,,,,

I really hate the "width" of the rear brake pad especially when I'm cruising. The pedal makes me put my foot "out" to far compared to the left side. Also I don't really use most of the right floor board because the pedal is in the way.

So I took off the pad, cut the brake metal lever in half and flipped the "PAD" pointing up. Walla,,,,,, take care, pAuL

On my eighth Touring bike in 10 yours and have done this on the last 3. I buy an after market pad though due to all of my bikes being non street glides. I also put on the kuryakn floor board 1 " wider 1" forward brackets to really make my floor boards comfortable.

I use VTwingoodies floorboard extensions.

I think the pad looks goofy on end like that, but that is just my 2 cents.

Your ride, ENJOY!

I feel the same way, so what I did was remove the decorative pad, as the OP did, get an FX pad, which is much smaller, cut the brake pedal down so the FX pad would fit, and attach it to the now smaller brake pedal. Works great and looks good.

Another alternative, more old school, would be to get an old style 'popsicle' rubber pad, cut down the brake pedal so it could slip on, and glue the rubber pad to the brake pedal. I've done that several times.

I agree that there is no reason for having such a large brake pedal on a motorcycle. The OP's method has the advantage of being able to avoid having to lay out any money. The FX pedal costs about forty bux.

Anybody with any fab skills will be able to figure out the details of how to do this, so I don't have every exact detail. I used a HFT cutoff tool to make the cuts, one could use a Sawzall or power hacksaw, or a band saw...no need to remove the pedal, just do it right on the bike...

You're right.

It was cost free, and that is a plus.

But, I do agree with you, I don't care for the look, which is why I went the way I did...I've installed the extended floorboards, and fabbed my Kuryakyn Cruise Pegs to fit them, and I don't intend to install an extended brake pedal, no need, and no real advantage...

You don't have any problem reaching in closer to the bike with your toe to hit that pedal? I'd have a heck of a time. Stock I barely reach the outer edge of the pedal. My knee hitting the air filter cover spreads my legs wide, and it's already pretty awkward curling my leg in to hit the brake pedal.

I've actually been considering making the pedal wider, so I can more comfortably reach it.

I like what you did. I was wondering what to do with mine and ended up cutting a 1 1/2" off the end.
What is the width of your brake pedal now?
