I have a 2007 RK with 26,000 mi. I ride it to and from work just about every day. In the mornings when I start the bike, it idles just fine. In the afternoon when I start the bike to come home, the idle is noticeably high for a while. Is this possibly due to atmospheric conditions? I honestly have no idea what to make of it. Anyone have similar experiences and know of solutions?
Is it warmer in the garage in the morning when you leave for work than when you go home? I think the 07 is EFI and idle speed is governed by cylinder head temp. Colder = high idle longer. This sounds normal to me.
How long does it take for the idle to drop down? On cooler mornings my bike will idle faster for about a minute. I assume its the efi working as a choke? When I had a heated garage I never noticed it
It drops to normal within a few minutes. Yes, it's EFI. I store it in a garage which is basically room temp overnight. By the afternoon it's usually a bit warmer (being in the Phoenix area). Thank you guys for your insight.
EFI does run a high idle routine based on cylinder head temp. The colder it is, the longer the high idle. How high are we talking? 1,500 RPM or less is normal.
Not sure how high it actually is as I don't have an rpm meter but it's noticeably higher to the point where if I put it in gear there's no need to rev the throttle at all to get going. Just letting the clutch out gets me going, although that drops the idle slightly. More inclined to start and wait a few minutes until it warms up a bit. I will have this checked when I hit up my mech for tires soon.

Your idle air control needs to be cleaned. There are threads on this. The sensor is located inside the throttle body.
