Default Risers on a Road King

Gotta change the bars out on the roady for the longer rides.

I've heard of some guys putting on 4" pullback risers to bring the stock bars closer and up.

Has anyone done this?. Do all the stock cables stay? Whats involved?

How important to you is that little cover over the factory risers? I changed bars, not risers so I'm not positive that different risers will eliminate using that little cover, but I believe it will and the center portion of the bars may interfere with access to the fork lock cylinder. My local dealer was quite knowledgeable about different bar options and which ones allowed using the stock cables and hoses.

What Road King do you have? Pre-2014? Or a 2014? If you have the pre-2014 version with the stock bars, you should be able to get away with adding risers without extending cables or wiring. However, if you have Heritage Style (stock on the 2014), or other taller bars, and add 4" risers, I'm betting cables and wiring will have to be changed also.

'10 RK added 4 up and 2 back risers with a street slammer cover. A little difficult getting the key in to the cylinder but the comforts worth it.

+1 Street slammer cover; has the holes on top for the risers. You will need urethane riser bushings (cheap) if you go higher than 10 inches you will need to extend cables and brake lines and wiring.

I just finished doing this, got the goods for Christmas & birthday. It's a good sized project by the time you are done. I needed to go this way because of the 3" lift kit on the gas tank.

I have a bunch of pictures to post, I'll try to get them posted tonight so you can see how it looks.

I changed the bars on mine, HD Heritage bars. Added to comfort without having to replace cables.

I posted some pics in my garage; some back in 2010 with the 10" mini apes and stock cables, recent ones with extended cables and brake lines, same bars, just on top of 5-1/2" risers...

Put WO 515 10" on my 03 Classic....had to replace my throttle cables and brake line. Clutch cable remained stock...12" wire extensions. All this took me about 5 total hours..happy with results. Can't ride yet here...
