If you can I would highly recommend replacing that seal with one from Cometic, as they have a dual lip seal.

Special tool to pull the mainshaft bearing. If it's the first time you've done this, plan on about 6 hours so you can study things and understand them before ya move on to the next step as well as undoing what ya did two steps ago to correct your mistakes.

No special tools needed outside of a locking tool for the clutch basket and compensator. You can make the seal puller for the shifter seal. Here is a linky that might be of some help...

Dont buy a locking tool, just use a pc of flatbar or wood block, can remember the length..6-1/4"? Ive never changed the shifter seal, only the inner primary brg and compensator.

It's unbelievable what has to come apart for that seal. If the shift shaft is nicked cutting the seal then your talking a whole nother ball game. Been there, it would involve the shift pawl assy.

does the starter gear have to come off to get the primary off ?? the seal behind the starter gear is in the kit ,, is it a pain to change on the bench ,, I have no press ,, can it be done without one ,, can do the IPB seal no problem there ,, but never done the starter lip seal , book says there is a bushing that has to be press in and out,.
thanks mike
