Default engine swap

I have came across a 2013 103" FLHTCU engine. it is a dealer removed engine. replaced it with the 120r. I was wondering what I would have to do to get it to work in an 06 FLHX or would it even be worth trying. Any suggestions welcome. could it be tuned properly?

Looking at your sig line, I think your 98" is probably stronger than the 103. Unless of course you plan on boring that out to 107. You're going from same to same, my uneducated guess is it would work.

Just curious, your sig says you have a 98" with cams and a bunch of work done to it, why the 103"? I have a 103" that's basically stock and it's a great motor but you already have some cash and good parts in yours. If you are planning to work on the 103" then I could see going that route. It should fit in your 06 frame just fine so that shouldn't be an issue. And getting a tune for it should be easy enough, Fuel Moto is a good source.

Ahhhhh.... That's right 06 has a 5 speed tranny... For some reason I was thinking late 06 had the 6 speed tranny but they weren't around until 07. Ok that may be an issue I over looked. Thanks Skratch for bringing that up.

The bolt pattern for the primary is different on '07 and later engines as compared to '06 and earlier. So, as far as I know, the later engines won't fit the earlier primaries. Changing to a later primary would require a 6 speed transmission, which probably does not fit the '06 and earlier frame.

That engine will NOT fit at all. Crank is different. Primary is different. Trans plates are different, etc. Stick with what you have.

That 103 engine is worth $2k, tops, BTW..... even if it did fit which it will NOT. JUst walk up to a newer bike... see any oil hoses? No? What will happen to yours? WHat would happen is EVERYTHING needs replaced. Crank Splines are way different. Compensator is different. Tranny is different, oil pan is WAY different, etc. Those oil hoses have been placed inside with new style cases and tranny.

Thanks guy. The reason for asking is the 98" isn't finished and the 103" is but if it won't fit I won't mess with it. I'm waiting on the heads for the 98". Still riding with the 88" in it. I spent the extra so I could still ride while the 98" is being finished up.

This 98" build is turning out to be very cheap too. I got a set of jugs from a guy who bought a new bike and never started it. He had the dealer ****** the top end off and put the SE big bore kit on it before he even rode the bike. I gave him 45.00 for the jugs. the SE 211 cams are already in my bike. I found a set of heads from a 96" motor 100.00. After all the machine work and parts I'll still have less than 1500.00 in it. I'm having it bored to 3.9370 i think thats what it is instead of the 3.8850 again don't know if the numbers are exact. But the guy thats doing the work is Jim Gutches from mooresville NC. Jim's V Twins. I've talked to a guy that had his done and its impressive. I'm going to do all the labor myself. And should have all the parts by next week. Then a tuner and finding someone to dyno it will be my next task.
