Check for a trouble code. If you coast in neutral above a certain speed for a certain amount of time the ecm will figure the switch is bad and it won't start with out pulling in the clutch. Just running the bike in neutral on a stand with the back wheel turning is enough to throw the code. It just may be a bad switch.

That's interesting. I suppose just clearing the code doesn't fix the issue (assuming the switch is good)?

I know that some places in Europe it is required that you have to pull the clutch in before starting and there is a switch installed. Your bike might have initially been planned to be sent to Europe then changed to the US. My 08 or 11 bikes,, neither needed to have the clutch pulled.
Have you tried this?
When the neutral light is on. Push your bike forward with the clutch not engaged. If the bike doesn't move, it's most likely still in gear. Can it maybe in between a gear and neutral, but just enough to have the green H Light on?
