Mine does that ever so often. All I do is push it into gear then back into neutral. Sometimes just a push on the shift lever is all that is needed. Apparently the switch and neutral is not always lined up for some reason.
if your dealer said he has never seen this before I'd be finding another dealer. Clutch must be pulled in to start period!

thats why i asked the questions i did, which haven't yet been answered. if it is a civilian model, the clutch only needs to be pulled in if the bike is in gear. if in neutral, you do not have to pull the clutch. been this way since they first installed the clutch interlock switch on the clutch lever in 2007. i've had a 2007, 2010, 2012, and 2013. all worked this way.
Have you tried this? When the neutral light is on. Push your bike forward with the clutch not engaged. If the bike doesn't move, it's most likely still in gear. Can it maybe in between a gear and neutral, but just enough to have the green H Light on? Start with the simple stuff first. YB
Good post , if the bike won't start unless the lever is pulled in then the switch is doing it's job and preventing the bike to be started in gear . Sometimes the neutral light will be on and the bike will be slightly in gear like above post says.
