Harley-Davidson is now using Can-Bus to monitor operation of the headlight, taillight, brake light and the signals in some cases on some 2011- 2013 models and then beginning with all models in 2014.
Problems with Can-Bus as far as vehicle owners are concerned is that we cannot just *****-nilly connect up electrical gadgets or easily modify the electrical system.
For now, the primary method of adding farkles, etc. to Can-bus bikes will be the added fuse panel and connections directly to the battery. However, messing with the stock lighting systems is not for the amateur.
I started a thread on this issue a few months ago. The canbus system on the 2014s does not play well with home mods or even some aftermarket add ons that the vendors SAY fit the 2014s but do not work well. An example is the Custom Dynamic light signals. I plugged them in to the front t/s sockets and they worked but the dash flashing light was double fast as if a bulb was out. I cautioned all '14 owners to research before buying or changing electrical stuff. The fix that worked on my 2014 so the canbus could "learn" the new lights was to turn on the ignition, put on the 4 way flashers for 5 minutes and then turn it off. The system learned the new signals and they work fine now. Had to clear some codes though that showed up at first.
thanks, everything i have to add or change is stock harley. i think my problem may be in the facia converter module which i think is in the tri bar light. i am guessing this converter module is specific to 2014 bikes and the can bus system. i will buy one and see what happens.

That module is the same as 2012. I know this because I have a 14 and I used the module off my old 12 on a different fascia that I'm running on my new bike.
