By all means don't do the flames, send them to me and I will shame myself for you. I happen to like them.

due to hip and knee issues had problem with right boot sometimes rubbing seat or hitting back rest when getting on/off from low side and decided to get on from high side by stepping on right footboard and swinging other leg over. (like LEO's)

as to flames, like 'em on bikes. just don't care for looks of lid covers and fact that dirt and stuff gets under and damages paint.

If you had a matching flame seat and some flames on the paint, maybe some black ghost ones or something, then the covers would look like they belong IMHO. Love the color of your bike.

You could always put the chrome lid rails on it. I'm not a fan of them but it's an option you might like

Thanks for all the comments good and bad about the covers. Exactly what I was looking to hear. Opinions vary but I got some interesting ideas (clear paint protectors, chrome rails etc). Also, thanks for the comments on the paint. I really do dig the red sunglo paint as well.
