I bought a set of 940's for the rear and the monotubes for the front end.
For me it was worth it.
I also was looking into progressive and then found thesehttp://www.ironacesspeedshop.com/suspension-technologies-f-tech-series-shocks/ after talking with both Chris from Iron Aces (who runs these on his bike) and the owner of FTech I decided to order a set which arrived yesterday so I do not have riding experience yet but am confident in the upgrade.
Im running 940 and very happy with them over the stock shocks. IMO they are a much better shock than the stock ones but its based on your needs and riding style and $. The newer 944 are better than the 940 and there are many other high end shocks that are better than the 940 or 944 such are Ohlins or JRI, terry cable and others.
If the 940 you are looking at are used and they are the early models they are set up with HD springs and for many this is too stiff usually riders over 250 with gear or 2 up otherwise you may be contacting progressive to get the lighter springs.
Also they usually only lower the bike about 0.5" over stock on the jiffy stand, they will sag more with rider on to give the lower look
