Need some good advice. Just put on some tapered slash cut slips on my 13 flhx with stock headers and stock a/c. Now i get low rpm stutter, like a cough when i first take off or iust revvin it a little at stop sign. Only after its warmed up and nothin in ths higher rpms. No leaks says the stealer...
Typically you don't need to re-tune/map the fuel injection if you're just changing mufflers...but that's prolly going to be the responses you get here.
I'd be on Amazon & eBay getting prices...wouldn't hurt to find a less restrictive air cleaner & backplate while you're at it.
Self-install, or dealer? If dealer...they "say" no leaks, but how do you know? They could've over-torqued your header/pipe joints and you'll see the leak(s) later when soot starts showing around the clamp. Also, it's always good to get a good seal at this point with HT silicone (i.e. liquid copper). You run a bead on inner-side of pipe before slipping over header. This area's notorious for leaks...my 03 Sportster has one now (visible soot) from previous owner and I'll fix soon b/c I'm removing pipes for coating.
Yeah my first attempt at installing myself. May have overtightend the clamp cause i put some serious muscle tightening those clamps. Everything went well on the right side but had issues on left side getting stock off and new on.

From my experience, you need a pretty significant leak (especially at the header/muffler connection) to create a noticeable performance issue.
The hit you are seeing to acceleration is (most likely) due to less restriction in the mufflers than an exhaust leak. More air moving is going to 'lean' the air/fuel mix even more than the (already way lean) factory tune.
More air needs more fuel.
Too lean in idle area and cruise area. The stock AC is keeping it from being to lean at wot. Need to richen up about 5% to stop. The Harley download won't do that. I would put a good flash tuner on it and reap more benefits than just fixing this problem.
Thanks all. Looks like i gotta upgrade my a/c and get a tuner. Really was hoping to not have to do that thus the reason for just changing the slips. Thought it would be fine if i didnt change both pipes and a/c..
