5'9" 30" inseam short angles work great for me. Like heavymetalthunder also positioned them where I can rest my heels on the boards and toes on the pegs.
I'm going through this dilemma right now, I purchased the short's for my 14 limited, with the bigger lowers, they don't give enough room to have them adjusted in for a proper fit. I'm exchanging them for the longs. Hope they work as mounting the shorts left scratches in the chrome.
Scratch the chrome? They must be using cheaper chrome compared to older models. I took the highway pegs off my 06 RKC, wiped down the crash bar and you couldn't tell they were mounted. I had them on for several years as well.
So, when I use them I like to stretch my legs straight out. I usually adjust them so that the bottom of boots rest on the pegs in between the front treads and the heels. I'm thinking of trying the shorts and reverse them outward to see how they go.
You could if you have the room but bolting them up tightly will scratch the chrome on the crash bar and if you have a ultra with lowers the positioning is somewhat limited because of the big knuckle part of the mount. Maybe you could install them backwards? Plus I like mine down lower so I can rest my heel on the boards and toes on the pegs.
Your right bolting them up tightly will scratch the chrome so a good thing to do in wrap the crash bar with electrical tape before bolting on. This way no scratches if you need to remove or adjust to another position. Once you find the position you need just remove any tape that is showing and your good to go.
I bought the long ones and always felt there were to close. Went to the dealer and my parts guy held up the short ones and they were perfect. Sold the long ones bought the short ones. I'm a sawed off little MF. 5'7" on a good day. Like to position them where I can rest my heels on the boards and toes on the pegs. Its good to have multiple leg positions on a long ride.
Ditto, the I think 3" short ones are great. I do the same. Have them set for toes on pegs, feet on boards or stretched out with feet on pegs, love the set up
I'm 5'10" and have the HD shorts. I was able to adjust them so I can put my foot on them, rest it on top of them, and heel on the floorboard and toe on the peg. Like others said, on the Ultras with the lowers, mounting is kinda limited.
They are great, especially on long trips. It is so nice to be able to strecth out my legs.
