You mean you can put 6 gallons in one of these tanks? My gauge must be WAY off. I don't think I've ever put more than 4 to 5 gallons in at once on a fill up.!
Hope you don't make a habit of this, the fuel pump is cooled by fuel in the tank.
low fuel means less cooling.
sometimes unavoidable but I rarely dip below 1/4 tank....for me about 180 miles.
not sure about using a gps...i do use the gas buddy app which compares prices- and it updated by users so a closed station would not be updated

Mike, I guess I'll take my chances. Thanks for the heads up. One of my ridding buddies has a 2007 RK and he rarely ever puts more than a 1/2 tank of gas. I wonder if there is any data behind fuel pump failures and heat because not cooled by fuel. I would think that there would be tons of people on here and other forums with pump failures for both bike and cagers.
I would also think that the fuel moving through the pump is providing a lot of cooling.

Yes, only 91 or better goes in our bikes. We did have one stop that we paid $4.07 per gallon.
Amarillo by morning, up from San Antone.
Everything that I've got is just what I've got on.
When that sun is high in that Texas sky
I'll be bucking it to county fair.
Amarillo by morning, Amarillo I'll be there.

Oh, c'mon......I'm calling BS on this one if you are serious. I always wait till my gas gauge shows on reserve and normally put in at least 5.5 gallons. Had 74k miles on the bike and never cleaned the fuel filter in the tank or nothing. Never gave me a bit of trouble. Just a reminder, it gets in the 100's here in Vegas for months on end. So I would call BS on fuel pump cooling.
Yeah, gotta be careful about gas stations out in the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandle. I live up in Guymon in the OK panhandle and both 'handles are full of gas stations that might show up on a GPS....but are closed.
I'm actually going to ride down to Dallas when I get home from this deployment for a pistol instructor cert class in June. I might skirt around on 287 (small county highway) or I might go down and hit I40 over to Oklahoma City then down to Dallas. Haven't decided yet.
How'd you like the cowshit smell in Amarillo and Lubbock? Pretty nice huh?
