1st time Harley owner with an ignorant question here.
Fellas, My 08 Ultra seems to run pretty lean. My seat of the pants observation is that it runs pretty hot too although I dont have numbers to substantiate that. Seems much hotter than the Victory motorcycles I've run for the last decade plus.
The plugs are white, and the exhaust is a deep gold. If that is any reliable indicator then I believe she runs lean. Bike runs fine, no hiccups etc.
What I was wondering is can I install a fuel commander to fatten her up a tad and do so without modifying the exhaust and the air intake? I kind of like this bike quiet as it is now in stock form.
Many thanks in advance for any bones you can throw my way.
I use Nightrider.com XIEDS, which are a resistor pack that will enrichen your mixture about 8% under most conditions- part throttle cruising. cost about $120
But if the bike is running well....
either way sitting on top of an air cooled motor is gonna be hot.
the mid frame deflectors help, if you dont have already there are a number of sources.
Honestly for what you want to do I think XIEDs might be a better solution.Plug an play,no adjustments, just hook em up an go.Takes about 10 min fattens up the closed loop mixture by about 8%
on my 07 xied helped but where not enough for a stg one, not even just slip ons,pcv from fuelmoto and runs good,no more ping stumble or surging.i would run a pcv on a 07-08 even for a stock bike, and you'll have map support when u do do slip-ons and ac.
Very cool. Thanks. Sounds like the XIED may be the way to go. Much appreciated. The point made above: But if the bike is running well.... is well taken. It does run fine. I was told by someone that these motorcycles ran hot out of the box that year which could damage the engine pre-maturely. Maybe thats not so ? I would hope its not true and if not I'll just leave it alone because I subscribe to the if it aint broke dont fix it school of thought. Its nice to know there is a reasonably priced solution to the lean condition if needed.
Mid frame deflectors was mentioned previously. Is that what those leather flaps just below where the seat and tank meet ? I'm guessing yes. Like I said, I'm a dope about these bikes. A lot to learn.
Pretty darn coincidental, I stopped by my indie shop on the way home from work and conclusion is bike is running lean. Same symptoms white plugs gold pipes. Problem I have is the previous owner put in a screaming eagle super tuner and what I'm told no other add on device is compatible. I have the SE software and cables so were going to try and map it. If that fails I guess I'm off to HD and the dyno.
