need evo mod suggestions
Im new to the Harley scene and I have everything tore apart on the bike (95 tour glide ultra classic 1340) for paint and other custom stuff being done but I wanted to go ahead and freshen the motor up since I have that much tore down. I was thinking about doing the big bore kit on it but not sure if I really need it or should bother with it. I just like the sound of the cams and want some but I'm not looking to race just a little added power and a good lope when idling. Im all ears on this and what any suggestions while I have the bike tore down for the first time.
hey Walt,
there is an evo section which might give better info.
most of the guys here have late models.
the evo motor uses a single cam with 4 lobes.
a 'drop in" or bolt in style will require no clearancing for the valves or springwork and will work up to about 6000 rpms.
the inner cam bearing should be changed to a Torrington from the stock INA style
the lifters should be changed ( mine have run up high mileage but some have had the lifters fail at 40K, easy to swap while you are in there.
if you are leaving the bore ( i would), then the top of the motor can be left alone.
boltcutters are used to cut out the stock solid pushrods.
after the cam and lifters are in, adjustable pushrods can be worked into place, then expanded to fit.
saves on labor costs.
A very useful resource is nightrider.com
biketech
then look at the CV carb modding and tuning info.
I modded my carbs similar to this and have good power and good MPG.

We can help you over in the Evo forum! Big bore kits are a twincam thing, as the scope to do that with an Evo is very limited, but we have other things we can discuss.
