Modulating Headlamp
I purchased both the headlight modulator and the brake light modulator as a package. The brake light modulator was even easier to install. It flash quickly at first then slows down to a solid standard brake light. Excellent product.
The headlight should last as long as normal. The key word here is modulate, it doesn't click the high beam on and off actually. it goes bright then regular then bright without the filament actually going off. That way it isn't hard on the filament, It IS hard on a filament to be turned on and off quickly. I guess you could say it's like turning a radio up and down etc.
I was discussing this on another forum after I had my second closest call since I started riding in 1993. I'll cut and paste my comments and observations from that thread:
I order the modulator, but only a single one. Maybe with one steady and one modulating, they won't think I'm LE and start pulling over. I've see a couple videos of the modulators and read several reviews on www.webbikeworld.com. So we'll see. Maybe with the rears flashing when I stop and front modulating during the day I'll be a little safer. One thing I did read several places was to carry a copy of the Federal Statute that shows that the modulators are 50 state legal.
Well, the modulator came in today and I've got it installed. I opted for the single unit, even though I have dual headlights. Easy install, but the toughest part was deciding on where to put the daylight sensor. I ran it through the wire loom up to the clutch master cylinder. It stays put and looks straight up as directed so oncoming and dash lights don't have you modulating at night. I also left it wired to modulate the high beams since it's only allowed to operate in daylight. I usually run brights in the day anyway for more visibility. here is a short, but not small video (1.4mb) if you want to check it out. Just excuse the dirty bike. http://www.inspirationalthoughts.org...s/MVI_0732.avi
Well, it's been a little over a week with the modulator and I can truly say that I notice a difference over riding without it. I ride to work daily, rain or shine, and I'm being seen. I still ride like they are all out to get me, but I'm not being cut off at intersections as often and given more room when they want to come into my lane. Too bad it's only legal in the daytime. As far as I can tell the sensor does a good job keeping the modulator on during overcast days and early morning rides. Not a bad safety mod for $60-80 (singe or dual modulator). I'm using the single Comagination Visipath (on a dual headlight Road Glide) seeing that it was half the price of the Kisan version and didn't require rewiring like the Diamond-Star.I carry a copy of the federal statutes that I printed from Open and go to section S7.9.4 on page 29I've ridden in seveal areas here and the police don't give me a second look. I feel a little safer and think the $60-80 was a good safety purchase. I also have the Harley garage door transmitter wired before the plugs to the light and everything operates without problems.

Were is the sensor that turns it off when it's dark? Dosen't the unit mount behind the fairing? It definitley looks like a good thing to have.

Do you remember where you bought these at as a package deal? Thanks.

Just bought the plug in play off e-bay, installed with a tune trapper I heard about on here. Just went for a 20 mile ride, I think it does **** off people with the headlight. I ride a EGC. Happy with both, now waiting for the push-button fuel door.

Yeah - had considered the HID unit as well, which is what delayed me installin' a modulator. Once ah opted fer the dual-beam standard unit, then it let me go with the modulator...

I have run modulators on head and tail lights for all my bikesover the past 25 years. I only got two direct comments over the years. Once was when a woman flagged me down after I passed in front of her at an intersection. She told me that she thought the modulator was a great device as she would not have noticed me otherwise.... quite a surprise since I expected to get chewed out instead. The other time was when a man stopped in front of me got out of his pickup and walked back to tell me I looked like a freakin' Christmas tree back there (not only do I modulate but I have my passing lamps wired to stay on as well) and that I certainly stood out.
Anything for safety. I installed the Harley air horn last Christmas. To be seen and heard on a bike in a world of cell phone crazed cagers is priceless. If I **** someone off, so be it. At least I know they had to see me to be pissed off about me.
