I live almost 2 miles off the blacktop. Most of the time our road is hard packed dirt... gravel in a few spots and the occasional big rock. Easy to avoid and negotiate at near idle speeds. We have some bad spots and it may have been necessary, but they just worked our road over good. Dug out ditches with the road grader and built up sections.
I guess I am out of luck cycling up to the blacktop till a good rain and pack down session. Lots of big rocks limbs who knows what and loose dirt and gravel right now.... phhht
I feel your pain. Last year, one month after buying my 13 street glide, they tar and gravel the road I live on and didn't do a good job packing the loose rock down. Didn't ride for three weeks waiting on traffic to pack rock down. What a waste of money-tar and gravel...
when the gas well guys are down here a lot, they put some kind of oily stuff down to reduce dust... no way I'm gonna ride my bike through that. I know folks close to the road that would let me leave them at their place, but I worry about security there.

If your willing to let it get dirty, the rk does surprisingly well in stuff like that.
