With my new '07 RK Custom due in a few months I have been formulating a plan of attack on accessories. The one thing I found a bit odd looking on my '04 RK Custom was the chrome air deflector when I had my windshield in place. I'm considering removing it and installing a standard RK handlebar clamp cover and trim.
I think the Custom looks cool with the air deflector in stock form...but with the windshield it's a little goofy looking (to me).
You'll need to buy another piece as well - the headlight cowling trim strip (long metal piece) won't fit if you buy the standard RK parts.
It's a different piece for the custom. The dealer should be able to identify the PN for you.
I did this when I had my custom as well as replacing the bars at the same time.
Beware - sometimes you find that the deflector has been rubbing against the headlight cowling and therefore leaves some ugly marks when removed!!!! It's worth it though as the look is much cleaner (IMHO)
I am SELLING mine bc I ordered a quick disconnect fairing for travel (and tunes) and cannot mount the fairing with the deflector. I like the way it looks but always seem to have the windshield on.
