Next time you see me, don't hold back the "Nod" and I won't have to act like that.

Sorry man, but no. Theres not a person on this forum (or country for that matter), that doesn't know how our traffic signal system works. If two joggers got themselves caught in the middle of an intersection, to the point vehicles could leave the intersection before they made it half way accross, then they are just as much to blame. There is ample time and warning for pedestrians at intersection, and to get ones self almost run over because you tried to "jog" across an intersection and beat a light, places a certian amount of blame on them..... as well as the obviously clueless motorcyclist. Just having the "legal" right of way does not relieve a person of enough common sense as to not wait till the next light change. I think this occurance pretty clearly shows that. As I ststed in my first post, from the facts stated here, both partys could have used a bit of restraint. At least thats how I see it.

Most state laws are written to allow the pedestrian the right of way in situations such as this. Plus, anybody who operates a motor vehicle (or even a bicycle) should have the personal responsibility to avoid hitting a pedestrian. This borders on the same logic as not allowing oneself to be distracted, ie texting while driving, etc.

Agreed. The joggers probably cut the light too close but being on a motorcycle or in a motor vehicle we can easily kill an unprotected pedestrian. It is a matter of personal responsibility and integrity as far as I'm concerned. Don't bitch about cars and trucks not looking out for motorcycles if your not willing to watch out for pedestrians.

how big was the intersection? not sure of how the pedestrian warnign systems work there but normally its.

Green man to Red hand/Stop/Red Man flashing, to Red Stop when the main traffic light turns from green to yellow. The flashing period means do not start your walk as the light is going to change and you have about 10 seconds to clear the intersection.

Then when the car light turns red in some places the green doesn't come on for about 2 or 3 seconds and in some place it is instant.

Also the time it takes for the light to change from Green to Red is also a variable.

But mainly if a pedestrian gets caught in the middle of the road they have started to walk from the kerb when the red hand is flashing. So they are at fault.

However I do have a junction outside my work that has an impossible time to make it from green through flashing to red and change of traffic direction before crossing the road. most of the time i am stuck in the central reservation waiting for the next possible minute as i cant push the crossing button as there is not one there in the middle of the road.

Under Tennessee Code Section 55-8-134, a driver needs to yield to a pedestrian crossing the street in a crosswalk or in a school zone. The driver must remain stopped until the pedestrian has completely crossed the road. The driver also must do their best to avoid hitting a pedestrian even if they are illegally jaywalking. Further, under Tennessee Code Section 55-8-136, regardless of who has the right of way, a driver always needs to use due care to avoid hitting a person who is crossing the street. Drivers must especially use caution when children are close by (Tennessee Code § 55-8-136(a)). So blame, naw man, just observing.
I believe that to be true in just about every state. It doesn't matter if they started to cross on the green, they have the right of way. We still need to respect that. They may get a ticket, for crossing then, but u gotta wait.
