I always make it a habbit to leave the bike in 1st gear when paking on an incline. I let the bike roll till it stops then drop the stand.

Are you saying some people actually park in neutral? neutral is for warming a cold engine or tuning.

make sure bolt holding tab is tight and tab is seated, things like that are prone to make a bad day

Yep. There are many of us who do. Only time I leave it in gear is on a downhill slope that I think is maybe a little much for that tab.

I guess it's time to put it up on the J&S and check out the jiffy before we get to happy on the next ride. Thanks for the info!

Default Jiffy stand failure

It rested on the engine guard and the foot board, no damage done. When I got home, I jacked it up and examined the jiffy stand and couldn't find a reason for this. The bike was parked on a very slight incline, front higher than the rear. I can only imagine that I leaned the bike over on the jiffy stand before it was in position to fully lock??? Just don't know. Anyone else experience this?
Hmm, I can't for the life of me imagine how that popped and folder up if the FRONT of the bike was parked on an incline and was higher than the rear. If the bike rolls, that should have rolled INTO the catch and locked in place. Did you perhaps mean the front of the bike was lower? If so I can see that happening as the stand which wasn't fully locked slips off the shoulder and folds back up.

The stand WILL NOT lock until there is enough weight on it to engage the mechanism

Thanks to all for your input and opinions..I have been riding since I was 13 and never had that happen before. I have owned almost all HD models since 1996...never had it happen before. I wrote it just like it happened, yes the front was higher than the rear. I agree, it was operator error. I examined it carefully when I got back to my garage. I could see nothing wrong with the exception of the very weak spring. I'm off on a trip on my other HD at this time and will replace the spring upon my return.
Thanks again.

I used to do that and got tired of having to dig it out, push it, and put it away. Then I cable tied it to the handlebars for a year and got tired of looking at it. The high beam switch is "invisible" and makes for a much cleaner look. Sorry I didn't do it years ago.
