I just purchased a 2008 FLHT police bike. The bike is pretty much stock. 103", 6-speed. I want to give it a little bit more git up and go... I have heard to replace stock cams and exhaust right away due to overheating. Any suggestions???
there are a number of packages ( like 107") that are comprehensive with proven repeatable results.
fuel moto is a favorite vendor for many riders here on the boards. there are others.
beware, there used to be, maybe still is a real rip=off motor guy in the CO springs area.
if you wanna just spend a couple of hundred bucks now, and do a "Stage 1";
get a chrome backing plate version ( for black and chrome motor- if you have plain motor, get the cast grey version) of the Ness Big Sucker air cleaner on ebay from easternpc- $130 or less
get nightrider.com XIEDS, under $125
those combined with free flowing mufflers will get you 7 to 10 horsepower right away, and you can figure out or save for the rest.
your header will be fine, but sound is very subjective, so see what other guys are using that you like the sound of.
or you can pull your mufflers off and go at the rear baffle plate with a drill.
which costs $0.
so at this point you are at about $250 and have 7 to 10 HP.
Guys who drop off at the dealer often end up with a $2000 bill for "superior products" which add...7 to 10 HP
First, do some research and ask a lot of questions. Figure out your goal and talk to few builders. Proper Exhaust, A/C and tune (stage 1) can get near a 10% gain. After that, cams, done right, are great bang for the buck. Then heads, big bore and the list goes on. HP cost $, how much ya want/got?
