Problem with security system
My dad bought a used 2012 super glide custom from the dealership, but it didn't come with the keyfob or owners's manual-he was able to take it out for a short ride but when he got back, it seems like the security system activated; the hazard lights/turn signals won't turn off. I can't seem to get the motorcycle to a setting where we could enter in a PIN. What should we do? My dad called the dealership already but he's worried about the battery. He's kind of thinking of returning it for a different motorcycle at this point; what do you guys think?

Both are available for purchase.
Are you sure the bike has the factory security system installed?
After about a minute, they shut off.
If not, your not going to be doing anything with the factory security system without a programmed FOB.
If you know the PIN, then wait for the lights to stop flashing.
Then without moving the bike, turn the ignition switch on.
Very quickly press and hold both turn signal buttons at the same time until you see the 5 dashs show up in the speedo.
Now you can enter the PIN.
Press the left signal button x times (whatever the first PIN number is)
Then press the right signal button to move to the next number.
Press the left signal button x times (whatever the second PIN number is)
Continue to the last PIN number and then press the right signal button again.
The security system is now disabled and the bike should start.
Note: You will need to do this each and every time you turn the ignition off.
For that reason, I am skeptical that it even has a factory security system.
If it did, how were you able to get the bike started in the first place without the FOB?
Probably isn't going to be that easy. They are not just going to take it back and give you a different one after you already bought this one.

You can probably just open the left side cover and pull the main fuse. The security will probably still blink, as the security has an internal battery that will eventually run down. It will also charge back up when you plug the fuse in. Not positive about all this. I know the siren will keep sounding if the main is unplugged if equipped. You can also hook a battery tender to it to keep battery up. Mine will time out after a while and stop alarming if not fooled with. Can't believe the dealership would sell you a bike without the fob if it has security system.

if you don't have a fob, but you can start the bike, then you don't have factory installed security. if the flashing lights do not go out after app. 30 seconds, you don't have security, you turned the flashers on. if thats the case, then turn the ignition on again, and press the left and right signal switches and turn them off so you don't drain your battery.

If it has a fob assigned to the security system and a pin assigned, you never would have been able to drive it away from the dealer with out the fob.

Why don't new owners insist on being given the owners manual FFS?! We spend a lot of time in here answering questions that are in the book. Go to the dealer and get a paper book, or visit the H-D website and download one. Go to the 'Owners' tab.
