I have a 2012 street glide and just bought the boom audio upgrade speakers for the fairing...P/N : 77181-10..I already have a hog tunes amp I bought from a friend. Harley told me I shouldn't hook the amp to the boom speakers because they are made to run off the stock stereo, Just wondering what everyones thought where with hooking the hog tunes amp to the boom speakers. THanks in advance.

The CVO touring bikes come stock with boom speakers and an amp. I run the booms front and rear with a J&M amp and have no issues going on three years now. Also have a sony head unit, thinking about upgrading to some new BT 7.1 speakers just because I'm bored and want something new.

fwiw...I would return them and go with a set of 6.5" speakers with adapters since the Booms are rated at 40w rms and 60w peak and they just don't have the low end or the fullness you would get from upsizing...also I'm speaking from experience having blown a set of Booms with my 75w per channel amp. It worked fine on short trips , but when I did a long ride at extended volume the Booms failed...I replaced them with a set of Infinity Kappa's 62.11i which sound far better than the Booms did and cost less...Oh and just an fyi...per HD dealer...the speakers you buy for your SG fairing /bags are not the same that are installed in a CVO.They get a higher capacity speaker to handle the amp...and HD seems to be hush hush on the specs of their Boom speakers...which is suspect imo. Whatever you do...good luck!
Sorry little late reposting. But I did install the boom speakers with amp..and it is ridiculous compared to the stock speakers. Im hard of hearing from working on jets, but at full blast it is crisp clear and LOUD! love it.
I was a firm believer in boom over stock for many years. Now that i've upgraded to biketronics there is no comparison! But for the price or the two brands the booms were not bad at all.
