I got good mileage out of the stock Dunlop and the American Elite I replaced the rear tire with. Both of them went 16K miles with probably 2K left that I chose not to use. My third set of tires are Michelin Commander II's. So far I have 8K+ miles on them with no issues and no real signs of wear. They seem to handle as good or better than the Dunlops, but I don't drag my floor boards around every curve so others would probably be better able to assess the handling than I am. From the looks of the tread they should go at least 20K miles, if so that will be better than any rear tire I've used so far.
Put a set on my 05 Ultra, last week. Great Tires!!! Confidence in cornering at higher speeds is greatly improved. Scraped the boards a few times, not even aware I was leaned over that much, with Dunlops getting it over that much took *****!! They were cheaper also
I'm on my second set of MCII's - the first set were on my '12 RK and had 9500 miles on them (with 9/32nds of tread left). That was just before they went to salvage with the totaled RK. I liked the MCII's so much that I took the OEM Dunlops (at 1500 mi) off of my new '13 RK and put on a set of Michelins. The ride and handling are both better and the wet road grip is superior. The MCIIs don't "follow" (tar snakes, bridge gratings, cracked roads) like the Dunlops do.
If anyone wants to make an offer on a set of almost new Dunlops for a RK, drop me a PM!
We'll I would be trying something different today ...bought a car tire and come yo find out my rear fender is offset by quite a bit so the thing won't fit...I am stuck putting a D402 for now if I want to ride tomorrow.... Been a while since I had one of those....like 70000 miles or so ....I will be curious to see how I toes compared to the CII.
..gotta love the stock Dunlops....really?...they have to be the most mediocre tire ever made...they do everything you need a tire to do...just barely...rough ride?..check...follow tar snakes?..check...wear out fast?..check...squirrelly in weather?..check...ugly tread style?...check.... MC11's..get em..love em...enjoy em..best tires I've had in a long time!
