Default Help...2000 or 2005 Ultra?

Hello,

Finally making the move to a big touring bike, and decided on an Ultra. I have been looking around and found a couple of bikes that seem nice and fit what I'm looking for. I'm just not sure which direction to go and looking for some advice.

One is a 2000 FLHTCUI, perfect shape, less than 20k, one owner, nice pipes, and extra chrome. $8,500

The other is a 2005 just under 30k, great shape, multiple owners, lowered a bit, and completely stock. $10,000

Is it worth the extra $1,500 to get the newer bike a more miles and stock?

Opinions?

If the 2000 was carb I would say this one but I have no experience with the early injected models.

I don't know much about the years and when they changed things, but if the 2005 is fuel injected and the 2000 is carb'd I would pay the extra for the FI. Also, I'm not sure if they made the tanks bigger between the years, but I have a 2003 Ultra EFI, and my buddy had a 2002, carb'd and he was stopping about 75 miles sooner than me for fuel and I was carrying an extra 230lbs. (2 up and my friend is a little guy). As for the mods, it doesnt' sound like either had gone through "Serious" changes, so that might not be an issue unless you want the pipes and chrome, only because that stuff adds up quickly. Just my limited knowledge and input?

The 2000 will have the older EFI and that makes it a little harder to find parts. Some people don't want to touch it.

The 2005 will have the newer system and the newer radio.

Personally offer less on either and enjoy.

Maybe it is just me, I would be leery of the lowered part of that bike

The 2000 will have a forged crank and Timken bearing from the factory. You can build up this one for sure.

Does anyone feel that the prices are high? I talked to both of these guys and these are the negotiated lowest prices.

Price is OK on both, but I'd definitely jump on the '05. I think you'll have more of your investment left after a few years. And,I've heard nothing but bad news on the older injection system-[already mentioned here] 5 years difference = $300 per year,it's gotta be worth that much more.
Look at HOW it was lowered though, there's some cheapy lowering blocks out there that have been discussed in another thread, and there are also some available that look safe.[I personally don't believe in lowering blocks..] but they can be removed and put back to stock.
