Some aftermarket accessories and certain types of driving can invalidate the warranty on vehicles other than Harleys...its common practice and this is why you should keep your bike stock until the warranty runs out...unless you own a BMW car and then you should sell it as soon as the warranty expires.

That's the dude that recently put 1,000,000 miles on his harley. recognize the bike in the picture.
http://www.bikernet.com/pages/First_...yDavidson.aspx

in the OP's link, the picture caption says it was a former bike... must be he got himself a 2014

by the way - I agree with Harley Davidson - if you mount 7 flags and have tranny problems... don't go crying to the moco

voided his motorcycle's repair warranty because of the patriotic flags he let fly from the back of his chopper.

Chopper?

Think the same.....HD missed an opportunity to generate some positive PR for themselves, and be seen in a positive light. Lord knows their is enough negative stuff about the way they handle claims, and recalls and such.

OK as a mechanical engineer I knew there had to be real data on forces on flagpoles. Google found me a 2007 paper by the Nat'l Assoc of Architectural Metal Manufacturers (NAAMM) FP 1001-007 that gives the formula for loads as a result of wind acting on a flag. They actually towed five flags ranging from 5x8 to 20x30 behind an airplane and measured the drag at speeds of 60-110mph. The equation is:
Wf = 0.0010 x V^2 x sq rt (Af) x Ch x G
Wf is the flag load in pounds
V is maximum wind velocity in MPH
Af is the area of the flag in sq ft
Ch is a coefficient of height above ground - I'll use 1.0 because the flag is moving at true speed - the range is 0.86-1.59
G is a Gust Factor, and I'll use 1.0 because the bike speed is steady - they use 1.4 for flag poles
So Wf = 0.0010 x 70^2 x sq rt (15) x 1.0 x 1.0 or
Wf = 19 pounds!
That's a lot less than I would have thought. Maybe because the flag is a lot smaller than they tested?

They had already given the guy a free bike. How much more are they expected to do.

From an article about his million mile Harley

"Two days later, on April 6th, the group pulled up at Harley’s corporate headquarters at 3700 W. Juneau Avenue, Milwaukee. There, Steve Phillips, VP of Quality and Dealer Relations, handed over the keys to a brand new Road Glide. Phillips joked that he had to give Zien a new bike because they couldn’t find any technicians who would work on the FXRT anymore."

SEVEN flags is like a parachute at highways speeds. I fly one full size for PGR escorts, and I can feel the drag from just one.

The engine can only make so much power, you can't go past wide open throttle. Either the drive line can handle or it can't. When you select WOT the engine is making max force on the drive line whether there are flags attached to the frame or not. Is Harley admitting the drive line is under designed and under built for the size of the engine?
