How long before the motor will need attention??

Default How long before the motor will need attention??
2000 FLHT 40 k serviced regularly- cam bearings changed at 5 k - cam tension er shoes checked at 10 percent wear 38 k Andrews TW26A Dyno jet in stock Mikuni K&N in air box and V&H exhaust.Other wise stock. How long will this motor run before it needs rebuilt ???

If ya ride like me, any time now. Some get over 100K???

I'd say you're not even half way there yet.

Ill need one wayyyyy before 100k.
My bike already lugs and chugs like a bad rear end on a car at slow speeds....

+1 they do go over 100K, easy.

TC88s seem to go around 110k before a top end is needed. TC96 seems like a 160k is a common number although I hear of some going longer.

I'm at 75k with a very similar set up as yours. Runs very strong. No indication I need top end work yet. And we also have the good crank shafts.

Fixed it for you. JK. I know you were talking top ends. Bottom end though...

IPB, compensator, crank, cam bearings... very common issues with the 96.

Ok fine..LOL. I have done IPB-failed, compensator-failed (SE compensator looks good after 20k miles), Cam bearings - upgraded as preventative maintenance. Crank seems good, although not the best balanced. I have definitely rode smoother TC 96s than mine from day one. Still does not seem to hurt anything.
