this is the air rushing into the throat- there are also pulses from the exhaust system which affect the air flow so it is not a constant, but fluctuates
the stock housing is for noise emissions, so now you know what it was muffling.
I have no experience with the krapkin, in the past they sold chrome geegaws with magic opening doors and stuff, any of that on there? on loose parts?
the exhaust note will have changed as the mixture has changed, it could even be that the ignition timing is changing as the "tuner" adjusts for conditions.
very generally a crackly some pipe sound can be indication of lean and while a more muffly deeper sound can result from overly rich mixture, but I wouldn;t think too much on that
