You didn't say but did you get in rain. If you did check for water in the plug behind the throttle body or even the main ecm plug. Have also seen water get in the coil plug and give bad trouble. I have seen fob appear to be working fine and still cause problems. Saw one about two weeks ago that would go into failsafe right after fired up. Did this several times. changed battery and no more problem. Also was helping friend with program on 2010 Trike and he had walked out of the shop with fob and I didn't know he had the fob with him. I tried to start the bike and it turned over and kicked back a couple of times and failed to start. Don't assume anything on the security system.
Yes the fuel pump runs for about 2 seconds, just as it usually does. The FOB and battery are new as of about 1 month ago.
The backfire came from the quick off and on sequence i put it through. (that would be my guess). I was thinking maybe a relay or a fuse might have blown. I don't know how to check a relay while in the parking lot. I checked the fuses and didn't see a bad one, but will go check again just to be sure. Should i disconnect the battery for some time? This will not be an easy task.
I have read on here that the 2008 had a recall for a bad fuel filter housing inside the tank and it can crack causing a loss of pressure from the fuel pump. The forum i read said this reduced pressure can cause it not to fire. Is it possible this backfire surged the pressure in the fuel line and cracked that filter housing?
The bike has good compression. It has 20k miles and has never had a problem with how it runs. It has always started right up.
Its your fuel filter inside the tank. They had a recall on the 2008s. Same thing happened to mine. Small plasitic ear breaks off and allows fuel to bypass. Had to get mine picked up.
Good luck.
Grand Junction Harley is open Monday morning at 9am. I use to live there in Montrose. You may want to check into renting a u-haul tomorrow and heading up to Grand Junction so you can be there first thing Monday morning.
Disregard below..I missed that his starter was cranking...
are you sure the alarm is disarming?
the fuel pump will run even when the alarm is armed.
and radio frequency interference can be a factor...PUSH the bike 50 feet and try again
2.) you can run a jumper wire from the battery + to the solenoid ( pull the green wire off the solenoid, touch jumper to the terminal) to crank the starter- do this with ignition on, bike in N.
the starter will crank- if there is fuel and spark, it'll start
this is easier down if the jumper wire has a terminal crimped on it..attach that at the solenoid and then touch the other end to the battery +.... only because we can't help but jump when the starter cranks and the spark show is avoided this way.
