I did it because my vent to the ground set up was hitting the bottom of my tank and I had no choice. Only draw back is if you need to rotate your bars down for reach, they can only go so far before they hit the tank on full left to right turns which your really don't do. Also, if you don't raise the back of the tank close to the front amount, your gas gauge is slightly off.
I did it on my Road Glide from DK Customs (I think), 2 inches. May swap it to the Road King as it caused me to lose 2 sets of deflectors that attach to the engine guard and snap to the front tank bolts. Don't really see much benefit and wouldn't do it again but since I have it... And yes, forget about relying on your gas gauge.
