I'm really looking to replace the stock air shocks on my SG but don't want to spend a fortune, so I was looking at the progressive 944 and I've had read mix reviews. Anybody here have them and any input on them. (Got my finger on the trigger) on these shock
I would probably would have to go with the HD spring since I'm 265lbs + 135
Check out shocks by a company called Suspension Technologies. They are made to order and built based on your bike and weight. I have a set on a 2010 SG and it totally made my bike ride and handle much better. I went with the 13" shocks, which are an inch longer than stock, and was well worth it. It sits a little bit higher, but was one of the best mods I've done to this bike.
Don't buy shocks in a box off the shelf! Buy them from someone who will advise you on a suitable shock and ensure they have appropriate springs for you. I agree with the Howard suggestion - being another customer. Buy shocks once and get them right!
For the money I did the Harley Premium adjustable (non-air version), even though I wanted something better (too many $$$$$$). Quite an improvement although a little on the stiff side. For an Ultra, they are the 13" version.
You likely have 12" shocks. 13" is an option if you're bottoming or a lot of 2-up riding.

Have them on my bike and love them, have put them on a number of my customers bikes and they too really like them. I personally think they are a great shock. try eastern performance for good prices

Because your wallet has decided I suggest you go ahead and buy the 944. It is a good shock for the money. It does not compare with the JRI or Ohlins which are custom fit of course but you can't afford them so no need to look at them.
Type in 944 into the search function and you may even find a barely used set for sale.
progressive 444's or 944's hd spring. I went with 444's and monotubes for the front, and have less $$ in it then just the rear JRI's or Ohlins rears, not saying these aren't great shocks but OP said he didn't want to spend a fortune, and the progressives made the ride so much better. progressive 444/944= $450-$525, JRI/Ohlins= $800+
