Went on a ride today and my oil light started flickering. It got to the point where it was almost solid at 70 mph but my gauge is reading correctly so I am going by that.
Could the wire at the sending unit be shorting to ground or the sending unit be bad? If so, I would think my gauge would be reading erratically. Anyone got any ideas where to look?
Pull the wire off the pressure switch and see if the light stays off. If so the wires not shorted to ground. If it comes on it is.
If it stays off, try changing the pressure switch, as it's hard to check it for continuity at 70MPH.
It's got to be the wire or the sending unit, they are very basic and the wire just snaps onto a threaded bolt. When i put my PSI gauge on, I just grounded the wire and that keeps the light off.
Well I finally changed out my oil pressure sending unit. Light still flickers when hot. Going to pull the wire off tomorrow when it starts flickering again and see if it still does it.
Mine started flickering on to. It stops flickering after about 25 miles into my trip to work or home. That is when my oil temperature gauge starts getting up to 170+ and I just did the oil change and it is in the full range. I got 84,000 on it today. 2012 FLHX and runs like a champ with RedLine oil
