Default Crank runout

So it all started with a rattle knock,,my so called mechanic friend swears he can fix i with out too much cost,,,i asked him to do compression, oil pressure, and crank runout tests,,he replace camchain tensioners ,cam bearings, oring kit in oil pump,,and rocker shaft bushings.charged me 1700 altogether,,got it back,it ran like a piece of crap,,shut off, with a terribele metal grinding sound,,couldnt start sounde like something snapped.
so towed back to him ,he took apart all that he did to see if something broke,,says its a bad lifter,so there goes another 350,,its been a month again,,and he now does the crank runout test,,and says it is .0004,,,and that its not even worth putting back together,,Im so pissed that he didnt check before working on it and replacing all that,,,ohh the bike is an 01 road king classic 95000 km so my question is,,can it be put back together and run,,or is there something else I should be looking at?

I just had gear drive cams put in and my runout was .001, if yours is .0004 thats less then mine and almost perfect. if yours is .004 thats still not bad, for new Harley bikes now acceptable run out is .012
If you have a 01 you have the good motor, Timkin Crank bearing, forged bottom end, crank run out is usually not a problem in 99 to 02 motors. I would definatly take my bike to a proven Harley shop to find out what is wrong.

Leave the chain drive cams in it and ride it. .0004 is better than any new crank coming off the line today. I'm convinced the new.012 spec is tor avoiding warranty repairs.

Personally, I'd be looking for another mechanic. JMHO! Google "TT324 – August 22, 2007 - Twin Cam Crankshaft Inspection & Run-Out Specifications". If you can't find it PM me and I'll email it to you. File size is just too large for Forum. Specs for 1999 - 2007.

Run-out (Crankshaft in the Crankcase) - 0.0 - 0.010" (0.0 - 0.254 mm)

.004 is still acceptable, I'd just get rid of your mechanic friend, he already messed up your wallet dont let him mess up your motor too!

$350 for a lifter is out of line. The newer cranks that have a runout spec of 0.012" is a completely different animal. It is machined differently and measured differently.

350 was for all lifters. My concern is that crank runout acceptable or not

Say what now. Measuring crank runout is measuring crank runout...dont give a damn if its a shovel, evo 99tc 2012 tc of a 6btCummins.
