Dubuque Harley is a good shop. Fly in, and ride it home. You could fly in to Cedar Rapids for probably fairly cheap and it is about an hour from Dubuque. I bet they would come down and pick you up from there on Friday afternoon, get the deal done before close of business Friday, and your set for a 2 day ride home.

It a touring bike for crisis sake, fly up and ride it home over a weekend.

You got no excuse as its summer everywhere in the USA at the moment.

Best way to get to know a new ride, that's what I did, admit it was only a little 350 miles but I loved it

If you decide to ride her home, call ahead and get them to drop the fluids if they did not service it when they took it on trade, and make sure the rubber is good, Other than that she should be good to go.

I'd be a duck if i had it shipped to me. Like most said, fly...inspect it and have a hell of a ride home, and who knows, you might get lost and take an extra day or two finding your way back home

One would think bikes are cheaper down here, poorer state, however rarely do I see a 2014 around here, but lots and lots of older bikes. The dealers here really don't have many used bikes, and only a 4-5 2012 and new limiteds. I was stuck on no older than a 2012 and I wanted a limited. I checked for about 2 months when I was by the dealerships but the few they had where in the 20k range, more than I wanted to spend on used bike.

The few individuals that were selling in my price range refused to take the bike to a HD place and have it inspected so I could get an ESP, even when I offered to pay for the inspection. If someone isn't willing to do that than there was something done, or something wrong with the deal and I walked away.

I bought a Victory a few years ago on CL in Minneapolis and flew up and rode it home to Denver. I've also shipped one from Denver to Louisville when I was going to be out there for six months. That was a Fatboy and I decided to drive car out there. Think my company paid about $700 and it was not a problem at all. It was a well known motorcycle carrier out of Milwaukee, just can't remember the name.

I'm in St Paul working but live in Nashville now, used to live in Bham. Let me know, I will ride it to Nashville for you take a day. 900 miles is a short day about 15 hours.

You pay for the plane ticket(s). MN to Iowa Nashville to MN. I will pay my own gas from Iowa to Nashville. Like every one said, its under warranty still, so no worries on mechanical.

If you want to speak on person, pm me. I will send you my cell phone number.

I talked to the dealer, almost new tires, fluids changed and yes it was on the floor for 1999.00 said they took it on trade for around 18,000.00 so the finance manager made of a point of telling me they are taking a loss on it. Yea, right, they made profit on the 2014 they traded it for.

I didn't think about the uhaul trailer, good idea.

I checked car rentals one way from Birmingham to Dubuque and the rental was 403 one way for a compact car.

I checked on flights, 421.00 one way. As much as I hate flying for many reasons looks like I will be flying and riding.

Good advice to map out a route from Dealership to dealership even if there is some extra miles, and I plan on only riding during the day just in case.

Soonest I can leave due to appointments with customers is flying out on Thur 07/24 and riding back.

I gave them a list of items I wanted added.
ESP (quoted $2554.00 5yr with TW)
Fangs
Cow Bell
Adj Seat
HD Daymaker Reflector head lights
Garmin GPS (maybe not sure on that one yet)

Waiting on a final price to complete the temporary commitment. I didn't realize not all states don't issue temp tags. Does anyone know if Iowa does?

I have also told him that I won't sign until I see and inspect and ride the bike first. He told me I had already put a deposit and could loose it. I said that is ok, I would rather loose the $500.00 and a plane trip than 15K on something I won't be happy with, I spent a lot more than that to date and find my women I can risk some money for a 4 year commitment to a machine. Um, ok was his response. The sales rep Steve, and the finance person Dan have been extremely nice, and not pushy at all for adding stuff. They only responded to me and telling them what I wanted, and Steve didn't suggest anything else either. I would say they have been very professional and unexpected polite about this. I was expected pitches for all kinds of things, but that may still happen when I show up.

I know buying through Ebay and PayPal I have some buyer protection, and there were no terms on this regarding when I have to take delivery and once I see it I can't back out. I also know ebays rules on cars and motorcycle purchases, the buyer has the right to back out and get a full refund if upon inspection they decide not to get it.

One doesn't get the same protection when buying from Craigslist or Cycletrader and that was why I would only buy locally through them and meet them at a dealership for an inspection. FYI for those others that may consider buying long distance, ebay is the safest way to do it.

I have the full next week after I pick it up just in case I do get lost, and since I am not familiar with that part of the country that could very easily happen. I can't find my way out of a paper bag without a GPS.

I called a buddy one time after leaving a customers house to look up mapquest for me. He asked this late didn't you find the customer? I said yea I found them, but I use my cell phone for a GPS and there is no service where I am at so I can't find my way back to the interstate. He laughed and it got published in the news letter.
