Default Pulled the Trigger..Now I need to get it home

This morning I got an email that I purchased a bike. (ebay)
I bought it from a Harley Dealership in Iowa, ....umm, I am in Alabama. When I was looking I thought I had it set to within 500 miles, not 900 miles.

It is a Black 2012 FLHTK, 11,261 miles, fully stock nothing on it, with a warranty until August 2014. Qualifies for an ESP. I was able to win the bid for $15,600.00.

When I was bidding I thought I was keeping it within 500 miles of Birmingham so I could fly in and ride it back in a long weekend. I may still do that but first I need your advice.

Have any of you recently shipped a bike from one place to another? What I would like to know if you could name a company to recommend you had a good experience with, and what would your guess for cost of shipping the bike 900 miles from Iowa to Birmingham AL.

The dealership where I am getting the bike is DUBUQUE HARLEY-DAVIDSON
145 N. Crescent Ridge Dubuque Ia 52003 (563) 557-3735. I know nothing about them, so I hope they are good dealership. If you know please let me know as there are some things I want to add on before I take delivery.

I did a search regarding ESP at different dealerships. That was an old thread, so if anyone has a recommendation of a dealership to call about an ESP good price I would appreciate that also.

Once I get the bike I will show the pictures, I know it didn't happen unless it has pictures.

Had a bike shipped to me 3 years ago...never again. Could have flown there and ridden it home for 1/2 the aggravation.

Find a way to Iowa and ride it home. Break the ride up and you will be home with it in two days.

Had a Ducati shipped about 5 years ago. Never again. It was a bad experience overall. Fly in and ride home. Dubuque is a cool town.

Never had a bike shipped but I know dealers ship bikes all the time between each other. Check it out with your local dealer. But I am like the others, I would go pick it up and ride it home. A 900 mile ride is not as long as it sounds.

To the OP; I would not use one of the motorcycle shipping companies, as others have said it is expensive, frustrating and a complete hassle. I looked at shipping my bike from Wisconsin to Daytona one year for Bike Week. After getting quotes and talking to others, I decided no way. For about the same money, I would hire a private carrier if you want to ship your bike.

When I moved to Wisconsin, I had my Camaro and RKC shipped by private carrier. It was $950 for 450 miles for both in an enclosed 24' trailer. Again, it was a private carrier that loaded my toys on his enclosed trailer in my driveway. The next day, I met him in Wisconsin and I unloaded and inspected the toys in my driveway.

The private carrier was recommended to me by Lingenfelter Performance (the Corvette guys) as the private carrier they use for their customer's cars.

Personally, I would fly there and ride it home. That sounds like a lot of fun to me.

Congrats on the new bike and good luck getting it home.
