I don't know what if any difference the make up is between the heavy tranny fluid and the one designed for V-TWIN with shock proof is. I use the V-TWIN stuff.
I saw regular redline motor oil and oil for V-TWIN the other day when sourcing parts.
The guy told me that some people with older bikes use the reg redline. I would try and use the V-TWIN stuff if you can.
My bike finds neutral very easy, just time to change the oil, just didn't want the heavy duty to be to heavy?
I wondered the same a couple of years ago on my '12, installed the regular. Ran it for almost two years and worked great, and I live in South Florida....you're up in Conn where it gets a bit nippy in the winter. I would go with the regular. JMHO
Redline Heavy Shock Proof Gear Oil & V-Twin Transmission are the same fluid.
This product dampens transmission noise (reducing the notorious shifting clunk found in these gearboxes), dramatically reduces temperature, provides thicker oil films between gear teeth and resists throw-off.
For all aftermarket versions like Baker, JIMS, S&S, etc.
For all H-DŽ trans including with Evolution engines, Twin Cam engines, and latest 6-speed Cruise Drive
**Same fluid as our unique Heavy ShockProofŽ Gear Oil**
I'm about to change my transmission oil and plan to use Redline MT - 90 75W90 GL-4 Gear Oil. I believe 09 transmissions require/prefer GL-4 (not-5) because HD uses copper-coated parts. Does that sound correct?
