OK, I currently have a 91 Low rider and I am now waiting for an 07 Road King Classic to come into the local dealer. But now I'm hearing about the loud whine out of the tranny and the rocks in a can sound coming from the engine at low RPM. Before I make the final decision and pick up the new RK I would like to hear from anyone out there with an 07 RK both pro and con in regards to the two problems I keep hearing about. Maybe it is nothing or maybe I should wait a year to let HD get the kinks out (I hope not). I know the 6 speed was on the Dyna's last year and the 96 engine was available for several years now as part of the stage ll kit so I hope HD already has the kinks worked out but I will wait for some feedback from the 07 RK owners out there.
The problem that you are asking about was only on the early 07' models manufactured. It doesn't seem to be a problem on any of the recently manufactured models. Pull the trigger and don't worry about it, you are going to love your new Road King Classic!
Ah'm on an '07 UC, but the drive trains are the same...
The knocking? Wahl, let's see - they TELL ya that OD should be used at 70 & above - yet when it makes noise as yer drivin' slower than that, folks complain. Which part of ABOVE 70 wuz confuzin'??!??
Tranny whine? Wahl, ah reckon it does a bit - but some folks are commentin' that it's goin' away as the miles increase. Ah've only got 5k on mine so far, so it's too early to tell fer sure - but we'll see.
Look - it's a sweet bike. Nothing is perfect, so if that's what yer waitin' fer ah'd jest go buy a rockin' chair now an' be done with it. Otherwise, git what ya want an' ride it lahk ya stole it...
07 rkc here build date in sept i dont have any problems with mine. i love mine!!!!!!!!! this is my first harley and all i can say is why did i wait so long.
go ahead and pull the trigger. yes there is a little noise in 5th gear, its due to the cut of the gears. IMO you hear it more with a bike with a fairing. The slight noise in my bike has settled down after about 1000 miles, and with the new exhaust, I can't hear any noise. test drive one to see for yourself. If you think the noise is going to bother you, buy a low mileage 06 and stick a Baker 6speed in it.the cost of the 06 and the Baker could be less than the 07
