Default Performance improvements - TC88, FLHRi

Hi, a quick post to say hi to everyone on the forum. I have been riding Harley's a few years now, but have been active on other forums.

I wanted to post here, because it seems that the US forums have a lot more experience in the area of engine and performance modifications.

I have an '05 Road King onto which I have fitted a 2:1 exhaust, a Thundermax auto tuner, Hi-flow filter and a set of Andrews TW26a cams. There are a number of other mods (gas cartridges, batwing fairing, progressive touring link stabiliser etc), but I want to focus on engine stuff for now.

I am in a position where I could increase the displacement of my engine, but it would have to be via an aftermarket kit, rather than boring out the existing cylinders.

////

1. Which engine kit will increase displacement and allow better breathing of the heads, WITHOUT requiring a mod to the crankcase?
(I have looked at the S&S offerings, but I am curious to see what else is out there).

2. Can I keep my Andrews TW26a cams, or should I change these when I increase the bore?
(I like the way the cams 'come on' between 1800 - 5500rpm)

3. Should I have the heads ported separately?

I used the S&S 97 inch big bore kit, 20,000 miles on it now with no problems, if you are going to do the big bore kit yes I highly reccomend having the heads done, they will be off anyway, why pay for the labor twice? Also since compression is going to be increased you will want to put compression releases in. The cams are ok but when I did my engine I went with Andrews 37 gear drive cams, no more plastic tensioners, you just have to make sure your crank run out is within specs.

Hello old chap and welcome to HDF from the UK. The greatest challenge we have is availability of suitable parts, however S&S stuff is available and one of their kits would fit the bill. If you are anywhere near Wales I can recommend Matt of Matt's Machine Shop, who is not only an S&S specialist, but also a warranty agent. I had an S&S 107" engine installed by him back in 2008 and all is fine.

It is easiest (unless you are an ace mechanic) to deal with UK suppliers for such things. S&S also offer a variety of cams for any upgrade. Any more queries and we will help as best we can.
