Swapping Wood TW222 cams for Andrews 57
I have since installed a set of SE CNC ported heads and a +4 degree crank gear. Man o man, now this was a nice improvement! The CNC heads from HD are a great buy if you shop right and for the dollars spent factoring in selling my stock heads it only cost about $450 to swap the heads and another $48 for the +4 gear. Since I have stepped up the performance to the next level I went ahead and deep sixed the factory "c" lifters and installed a set of Woods directional lifters for insurance. I am using the SEPST and I navigate around it pretty well and I am waiting for my local dealer to offer the free dyno run that they do every so often to Chapter members. It should be interesting to see what numbers I get but man does the bike run sweet now. There has been some debate on weather or not a +4 degree gear will have any benefit using the 57 cams and I will tell you, YES, absolutely. It moves the torque band down about 300 RPM's in my experience and you lose very little on the run out. This may be due to head swap but It performs better than expected.
On a final note, after researching I have come to the conclusion that the 57 cam with the +4 gear gives me pretty much a high lift SE204 cam. Once I get the "free numbers" dyno pull done from my dealer I will decided weather to spend the money on a full dyno tune but I am have zero issues with ride-ability or hiccups of any kind. Bike is getting 45-47 cruising below 70 mph and in town about 42. I am very happy. BTW, I used a cometic .045 head gasket.
I saw a build on u tube from la harley had se factory ported heads 57 cam .040 head gasket, forgot pipe choice think it was
113 torque and 100 hp , curious how the timing gear will shift the torque curve on dyno
Ive been kind of thinking about re doing mine to this set up or maybe just getting a set of reworked B style heads from fuel moto , i have 10.5-1 and mva heads very drive able but not as smooth at anything under 1500 prm as the heads with smaller ports and valves.
are u going to dyno yours when all done fairly curious how it comes out with the fuel moto pipe, i have harley c lifts boy they suck with higher lift cam.
