AM sucks wherever I go. I think it is mostly due to advances in technology being aimed at FM, due to it's popularity. Being in the automotive audio industry, I get asked about this regularly. You can buy antenna boosters but they do not work.

My reception is fantastic on both am & fm. Rode 400 mi les yesterday and got lots of stations.

It would help if you mentioned what bike / radio you're having issues with. My 06 Ultra with the factory HK radio works well in both AM & FM modes. I actually listen to AM talk stations more than FM music. I pulled in a Dallas AM station over 50 miles away from the tower just the other day. I use the shorty antenna with the remote mounting bracket. Check that you've got a good grounding at your bracket-to-frame location,.
