Traded for a 14 Ultra Classic. If I could do it over, I would have worked in the deal a complete exhaust change out and stage 1 before I ever took delivery. There's two things I don't like about this bike. Number one complaint is heat from the cat. Number two the sound. I know these things can be corrected, but having a hard time deciding to give the dealer 2 grand to do it vs doing it myself and taking a chance on warranty issue down the road.
Bought a 2009 Roadking police bike in 2011. This vivid black gal had 4K on her. She was never a police dept. bike but was privately owned. She has a 103 motor. I stole her for $12.5k. Changed the stock bars to chubby 14" mini apes, a Long Ride Sheild and that's it. I would not change a thing. I now have 20k miles on her. The new touring platform is without question a huge performance improvement. By the way. If you try some canuba wax I think you will eliminate the swirls with the vivid black paint. I love black and chrome!
I have no regrets about the 14 Limited. I wish I spent a little more and bought the Daytona Blue Pearl instead of the Vivid Black. I try to be so careful not to create swirl marks ......... it almost takes some of the fun out of riding because I am so OCD about keeping my bikes clean. I try to live with a basic fact that someone else wrote: It's clean right after you wash it..... the rest of the time it is dirty"
Black really does set off chrome but ......it's high maintenance for sure!
The only hitch in this option is that the turn signals on the Limited are in the tour pac..... might still be cheaper in the long run, depending on cost of rear turn signals.
If I went back today I'd ride out with the same bike. Love it. Quirks and all. I wish I never sold my old Fat Boy. Would have been nice to have both hanging around for different kinds of rides. Life is good and gets better with every single mile ticked off.
I am happy with what I have (Street Glide Special), but if I did it over, I would probably go with an Ultra Limited and take the tour pack off. Even with the growing pains of the wethead, I think the extra heat reduction would have been worth it. I put new headers and pipes on mine and they are great, but it's still fairly warm. Maybe when it cools off I will be glad to have a little extra heat.
All in all, it isn't something I am worried about enough to consider trading.
