Thanks again fellas. It's incredible what they get for a pair of shocks for these things. As usual I need to digest the sticker shock a bit.

You get what you pay for! Cheap shocks will give you a cheap ride. If Mrs Beezr wants a decent ride, get her some decent shocks. You will be surprised what you have both been missing out on.....

Airshocks = low quality
Progressive = medium quality
HD hand adjustables = better quality
JRI / Ohlins = the best

Some will debate me on the Progressive's VS the HD hand adjustables. I can't see how anyone would debate the Progressive's being better than JRI / Ohlins?

I've had ALL of the above mentioned.

Just out of curiosity, why do you rate the HD adjustables over the 944's?

Could never get the 944's dialed in correctly. In fact I ran the 944's with both heavy duty & standard springs. I understand that a stiffer firmer ride improves handling but the 944's were just to harsh. The HD hand adjustables with the turn style dial provided a much improved adjustment scale to have the improved handling without the harshness.

Just not as improved as the JRI 13" B shocks I have now.

Hope this helps

I've had the HD Premium shocks for a while (14k miles) and like the improvement over the stock shocks. I'm sure the other shocks mentioned some costing twice as much are better or at least they ought to be.

I have had good luck with both the progressive 412's (get the HD, no matter what) and the Harley hand adjustable. I weight 195 and the OL 120, so we aren't that tough on them, but I def recommend dumping the stockers. 412's can be had on eBay right now for $219.

If money is tight, I was able to buy some hand adjustables as take off from a Street Glide Special. Sold my original air shocks and air pump to a friend and my out of pocket costs were $150 all in. Changed them out myself in 20 minutes.

Great advice....the hand adjustables will sell on the classifieds for between $250-$300. Don't know how much of a market there is here on the forums for the OEM airshocks. But minus the pump they'll sell on Ebay for around $75

Just try to get the 13" version. Much better and you'll hardly notice the difference when the bike is parked but it will make a difference in the ride from the 12" version.

Found another option that may be a little less expensive using a credit card and free shipping.
