I am trying to install DK oil cooler and filter relocator on my Trike. I supposedly have 6AN fiber hose. I cannot get the 6AN on the nipples of the cooler, filter adapter or the filter base. The 3/8 hose that shipped with the DK kit slides on but is not fiber cased. Anyone have any insight into what may be going on here? Appreciate it.
All of the dash (-) sizes use 1/16" meanings. such as -4 = 1/4", -5= 5/16, -6= 6/16" or 3/8". etc etc ... -16 = 1".
The AN hose size refers to the inside size of the host as opposed to tubing sizes which refer to external measurements.
If you are using the black braided cloth tubing available from DK, it is good stuff and very tightly woven. It was very hard for me to get it to slide all the way up on the fittings. I still have some carpal tunnel problems with my hands and my grip strength is not what it use to be. I had to lube the inside of the tubing some and get a friend of mine to actually push them on. The two up front on the adapter and cooler are in a tight spot and are the hardest. If this is not what you are using just disregard this post. BTW, if you are using this tubing it is hard to cut also. Be sure to tape the ends good and use a very good cutting tool and cut straight.
so60..it is exactly what I am doing. If I knew it was going to be this much of a pain in the *** I would have scrapped the whole idea. I will probably go back to the plain rubber hose that shipped with the kit and take it up the butt for the braided.
This could have been a great idea. It should have been precut hoses with AN6 fittings aready installed that screw right to the adapter, cooler, and filter base. Maybe DK would sell more if the kit was easier to work with.
I like wrenching on my bike but I don't like having to get pissed off when I do it.

Thanks for the input.
If you put the hoses on the barb fittings before you mount the cooler it might be easier. Another way is to heat up the ends with a hair drier to let the hose expand a bit & soften up a bit.
There is a reason for the stiffness of the hose. It has extra protection for the hose. Another thing is not put the fitting at the end of the hose while you put it over the barb fitting. There might be more flexibility to the hose without the clamp holding it to a smaller size.
Another option is to let a mechanic do the job...... Just say'n......
Thanks for the suggestions...I did try all that first. Little effect. The problem is the fiber hose has a thicker wall and really is not made for the barbed fittings. I have been sweging them with a sweging tool. Biggest problem is the lack of room for hands....
Precut hoses and flare fittings would be a 1 2 3 goodbye Charlie installation.
I'll pass on the mechanic...I want the hoses on. But thanks for the suggestions.
You didn't get -5, 5/16 hose did ya ? Yeah, if you could do the fitting then put the hose on would be better for sure. A little "O-Ring" lube in the hose might help. We always referred to it as Gorilla snot. Slick & sticky ! A little dab will do ya.

AN type hoses are not designed to use with barbs fittings. They are designed specifically to be connected via AN (Army-Navy) fittings or even the almost equivalent 37-degree JIC (Joint Industry Council). Properly spec'd & made up AN fittings/connections can hold pressures up to 10,000 PSI. (Don't even think about using a barbed at those pressures!) AN spec's hose connected via barbed connections is a waste (of your money).
Go to O'Reilly's & purchase the proper AN fittings to replace the barbed fittings & the proper ferrules/nuts to build the hose fitting. Look at Aeroquip website for more info.
Or just use the supplied hose & save the money needed to make the AN hose work.
One would think DK would send the AN fittings with the AN hose. There is a slip-on socketless fitting also. They say it will hold under pressure, but I would at least use a clamp.
