Freewheeler Rider's Backrest
I recently started riding a 20115 Harley-Davidson Freewheeler. I upgraded to a Sundowner seat (52000183) and installed a quick detach passenger backrest. After two or three hours my back begins to hurt so now I want to install an adjustable rider's backrest. Harley-Davidson has the receiver (54099-10) but not the backrest. I have located the 54099-10 receiver and a 52501-09A backrest (shown below) that was removed from a 2016 Triglide. What is the difference between a Triglide frame and a Freewheeler frame? Apparently not much because they both use the 54099-10 receiver. I found a video in which the man was told that his adjustable backrest would not fit his trike but out of desperation he went ahead and tried to mount it. It bolted on his trike like it did on the motorcycle that it was removed from. His backrest looked identical to the backrest that Harley-Davidson says that it will not fit a Freewheeler. My situation is different because I have to buy it to try it. I would like to hear from those of you that have had hands on experience with the Freewheeler backrest or can tell me why a Triglide backrest will not fit my Freewheeler
Thank you,
Ron Becker
On all other seats by Harley it seems to do just fine.
I had an adjustable backrest on my Freewheeler that worked fine with the Sundowner seat
With all of the aftermarket ones out there Im surprised that so many use the HD ones, I didnt expect that. That gives me a lot of confidence if I go that way.
What kind of feedback to people get from their passengers? I look at the hole in the seat to the passenger pad and it doesnt look like much room, even for my 130lb wife.
Factory seat recovered and heated hence the diff look
Super easy to mount here!

I have one on my Softail and it is super comfortable.
