The Kick Stand was hanging down or loose. Guess it finally fell off. You dont use it that often any way.

My neighbor has a Britany Spaniel Bird dog that we trained to locate the pings, ticking and grinding noise on Harley's. Just as he does Grouse or Pheasant he will lock up on point when he finds the area the noise is coming from.

We thought we would take it a step farther and see if we could train him to tell us how to fix the problem. On the first try he pointed out the noise and then when we asked him how to fix the problem he run into the house and come out with a cycle magazine and pawed over to an ad that was promoting Honda's.

Needless to say we had to put him down, euthinize him!

Took her out again this afternoon, different speeds and roads. I still can't hear it. Hubby will do the same when he gets home. I don't think I got that used to hearing it. I heard something( like a coin) drop down on my bike when I was packing up to leave Maggie Valley and then heard the noise when I started riding. I looked on the ground after I heard it drop and couldn't find anything. But considering it never stopped for all those miles and two days of traveling, I discounted the thought that it was something I dropped. Now I am not so sure. The last bit of road coming home had a lot of frost heaves, so just maybe it was a coin and it finally parted ways. Hubby didn't think a coin would stay that long, so didn't think it was that.......

Question

Just for grins, pull your tranny dipstick out and see if part of it's gone...fell into the trans.
Just a thought?!?!?

Default Strange Noise

Several times I have picked up a small gravel off the road and it will rattle around in between the fender and tire and it will get throw out. It sound like my glasses hitting the road, reading or sun glasses. I always start checking to see what I dropped.

In your case for 450 miles and it quit it could have been something got pulled up into the trans area on top of the belt. Most likely not!

Anyway that belt has no guard, be carefull on gravel or avoid it like the plague. I would hate to get a gravel pulled into the belt area and get a belt chewed up. That looks to be an expensive repair!

One of the weak points I have found on the Harley Tri Glide. Not a good belt guard to enclose the belt.

The reverse is still there! So, no point in taking it in as the noise is gone, so I just may be missing something. Just hope I don't find out in Sturgis.......

Last fall on a 220 miles ride I started hearing a pinging sound in the 35-65 mph range after I traded the lead with my ridding partner.

Just before we made our final destination we pulled up to a 4 lane stop light and the driver next to me in a cage pointed down at my half untied shoe lace.

THe hard plastic end was pinging on the exaust shields the entire time and driving me crazy.

Geez, you must have some extremely quiet exhaust!

IHP... Hubby's playing a trick on you again... 'cause your trike is louder than his POSE. (I would still grab a 5/16th nut driver and check how tight your heat shields are before you head to Sturgis) that will put George on his hands and knees for a while.

Dixie... could have been interesting if the shoe lace hung up and you leaned to the right at the next stop sign.
